Two Poems

August 4, 1946

All the girls are having a grand
long weekend, staying just across

from Washington Park. Went to town
shopping on Friday, hurried back

and changed for dancing. Stepping out
to dance at Jantzen Beach tonight.

You’ll see the snaps. I took some
special for you, showing off the roses.

On board on the way back,
a rough crossing, but I haven’t
missed a meal yet. Never let

a travel agent fool you—I needed
to find my sea legs, same as
on any small boat. It’s been

a fine holiday, and now I’m broke.
