Andre Rudolph and Issue 35

Andre Rudolph is a German poet and translator born in Warsaw in 1975 and raised in Leipzig. He studied German philology, philosophy, and Slavic studies, and has published poetry, essays, and translations in numerous literary journals and anthologies. His books include Fluglärm über den Palästen unsrer Restinnerlichkeit, Confessional Poetry, blicktot, nixe <klaffende tags>, and Ich bin für Frieden, Armut und Polyamorie – welche Partei soll ich wählen?.

Issue 35 published English versions of poems from his German work. A later Versopolis edition explicitly records that the English translations of “after years of wage labour…,” “snow white in liquid crystal…,” and “the daughters are windows…” were first published at the Issue 35 Rudolph page. That record preserves the issue’s place in the international circulation of Rudolph’s poetry even though the old page itself no longer survives inside the current WordPress archive.

Poetry and translation

Rudolph’s poems often move through cities, bodies, technology, memory, damaged landscapes, and abrupt tonal shifts. His translation work has brought contemporary Polish poetry into German, including work by Krzysztof Siwczyk, Tadeusz Dąbrowski, Adam Wiedemann, and other writers.

Lyrikline preserves a substantial selection of his poems and translations, including English versions by Alistair Noon. Literaturport documents his books, prizes, and work as a poet and translator in Leipzig.

Awards and books

Rudolph’s honors include the Prosanova Literature Prize, the Merano Poetry Prize, the Kranichstein Literature Promotion Prize, the Wolfgang Weyrauch Promotion Prize, and the Mörike Prize promotion award. His work belongs to a contemporary German poetry tradition shaped by formal experiment, translation, urban perception, and cross-border literary exchange.
