Cameron Conaway and Issue 27
Cameron Conaway is an American poet, journalist, educator, and former professional mixed martial artist. His books include Malaria, Poems, Until You Make the Shore, Chittagong, and Man Box, Poems. His writing has moved between poetry, investigative reporting, public health, ethics, and the social consequences of violence.
Issue 27 preserves an early satirical poem built around the language of commercial hair care, beauty, desire, and exaggerated advertising promises. Its imagery escalates from radiant hair and silk to stopped wind, reversed water, and the dead rising. The historical wording belongs to an earlier editorial identity, so this page records the work without reproducing its title or full text.
Poetry and social witness
Conaway’s later poetry expanded toward malaria, rivers, gender, violence, and humanitarian reporting. Malaria, Poems emerged from work with the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit and was named an NPR Best Book of 2014. His reporting has appeared in publications including The Guardian, Newsweek, The Washington Post, and Harvard Business Review.
Books and journalism
Poets & Writers documents Conaway’s books, poetry, fellowships, and journalism. The Pulitzer Center records his investigative work and reporting grants. His current author biography traces a career across poetry, combat sports, journalism, business education, and the study of feedback.
